The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced this Saturday thatthat he and his wife tested positive for COVID-19.

“After experiencing mild symptoms, my wife and I have tested positive for COVID-19. We have a mild infection fortunately, which we know to be the Omicron variant”, Erdogan said on his Twitter account.

“We will continue our work at home. We look forward to your prayers,” he added.

Erdogan held a meeting on Thursday in Kiev with the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, in which he reiterated that Turkey is willing to do what it can to resolve the crisis between Ukraine and Russia., while offering to host a meeting of the two leaders of the country.

After more than four hours of talks, Erdogan also reiterated Turkey’s determination to support Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Trying not to offend the Russian president Vladimir Putin, with whom he maintains a respectful relationship, Erdogan met with Zelenski, whose country feels threatened by the deployment of 100,000 Russian soldiers on its border.

Turkey is willing to do its part to resolve the crisis between two friendly countries with which it is a neighbor in the Black Sea. During the talks I said again that we could gladly host a leaders-level summit, or hold technical-level discussions,” Erdogan said.
