According to a specialist politician in the Bundestag, the federal government intends to present a new energy pass for buildings in the near future. This could become the benchmark for new funding programs.

According to a media report, the federal government will present a new energy pass for buildings in the coming weeks. “The traffic light coalition is working on a new “Sustainable Building” seal,” said Bernhard Daldrup, spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group in the Committee on Building and Housing, of “Welt am Sonntag”.

He expects that after the much-criticized stop of KfW funding for efficiency houses last week, the new sustainability certificate will be the benchmark for new programs. “The quality standards for this seal are not based solely on efficiency, but on the actual CO2 savings, based on one square meter of living or office space.”

Funding is fundamentally changed

The new federal government is currently working on a fundamental reform of subsidies for energy-efficient buildings. The Building Energy Act (GEG) is also to be changed. In the future, subsidies should be used in a targeted manner where the CO2 savings are greatest.

Since 2008, homeowners in Germany have had to show their tenants the energy pass, which provides information about the energy consumption in the rented rooms. The modernization level of a house is represented by a multicolored bar. Engineers, architects, craftsmen and chimney sweeps are entitled to issue the energy pass.
