On January 13, 2022, the president of the neighboring country of Peru met with the local president Iván Duque Márquez in the framework of the VI Colombia-Peru Binational Cabinet. The leaders discussed different issues of national interest, but apparently in the last hours, this strengthened relationship was even more marked after the match between Colombia and Peru, yesterday in Barranquilla

From Peru, President Castillo spoke about the victory of the Inca country over the tricolor, an important and historic result that succumbs in history after an agony of 20 years for Peruvians in Barranquilla. Castillo sent a message to his team congratulating them on their process and the good result, but also added a message to President Iván Duque in the face of an apparent bet between the two of them.

The Peruvian president highlighted in TV Peru: “Only unity is strength, look at the surprise that the Peruvian team gave us today. From here a hug to the national team and a hug also to brother Iván Duque, the bet goes now”, after this he said goodbye with laughter to continue with the supervision of the construction of a hospital in the city of Chimbote,

This result allows Peru to continue dreaming of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, since it places it in fourth position with a direct quota in the World Cup qualifier. The Inca team adds 20 points, only 4 from the third, which is the Ecuador team, with whom they will play the following week and hopes to ratify the good moment with which they have started the year as a local.

This has not been the first time that the Colombian and Peruvian leaders have met, since around the Binational Cabinets there is a precedent of five visits between the two countries, either in Peru or in Colombia, such as the meeting in Iquitos 2014, also in ´the capital of eternal spring´ in Medellín 2015, in turn have met in Peruvian territory in the city of Arequipa in 2017, the heroic has also had a leading role in official visits such as the one in 2018 that took place in Cartagena de Indias and the last and most recent before the critical situation caused by the pandemic, which was held in Pullcapa in 2019.

Since the colonial era, the two countries have marked an important precedent regarding the bilateral relations that have taken place, although, at the beginning of the last century there were discrepancies due to the division of the territory in the Colombo-Peru border, with the passing of the Over the years relations have been strengthened and that dividing line of the Amazon has turned the two countries into brothers.

Since 1994, with the signing of the Peruvian-Colombian neighborhood and integration commission, common binational cabinets have been developing that seek to work on political ideas on aspects of inequality, economic integration, and cooperation between the two countries that seek to reduce poverty and project economy of both within the region.

In the penultimate binational meeting held in the city of Pucallpa in Peru, they sought to address issues of migration and environmental protection with direct links to the Amazon, as well as the border security component to address the crisis of drug trafficking and illegal mining on the border between the two territories.
