ASEW launches municipal utility initiative for climate protection

Creating a GHG balance sheet

“The great encouragement we received made us all happy and of course also confirmed that we are spot on with this approach,” Wallikewitz continued. The initiative has the potential, above all, to have a positive effect on the cooperation between municipalities and public utilities and to further strengthen it.

The ASEW wants to act as a moderator across the board. If necessary, the working group provides support with concrete, field-tested solutions such as the creation of a GHG balance sheet or the development of a decarbonization strategy.

Stadtwerke Unna is chaired

Stadtwerke Unna was the first member of the Stadtwerke initiative. Its managing director, Jürgen Schäpermeier, currently also chairs the ASEW steering committee.

“With the founding of the Stadtwerke initiative, we as an energy supplier are setting the tone for an important issue. With such a complex issue, it is valuable to discuss issues with companies with similar interests,” says Schäpemeier. The ASEW network provides specialist knowledge and expertise, coordinates activities and brings many stakeholders together.

44 founding members

In the future, 44 companies from the energy industry will work together in the Stadtwerke initiative to actively shape climate protection on site. “These municipal utilities represent a good average of the ASEW network: from the municipal main supplier to the rural area supplier, all company sizes are represented,” says Wallikewitz happily.

“The signatories are also distributed geographically, from Saxony-Anhalt to Lower Saxony and Bavaria,” says the ASEW managing director. The founding members of the initiative are:
