AMLO discredited the lawsuit against López-Gatell for deaths from Covid-19: “Act of hate”

President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO), reprobate the order of a Federal Judge that could put Hugo Lopez-Gatell, Undersecretary of Health, in the crosshairs of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR).

The official in charge of the strategy to combat the coronavirus pandemic COVID-19 is charged with the crime of “murder by omission”, because of his “irresponsibility” which would have resulted in the more than 300 thousand deaths registered in the country.

Questioned about this, the Chief Executive came out in defending of the epidemiologist qualifying the complaint, filed by relatives of two fatalities, as unfair and one “act of bad faith and hate”.

“I think it’s not just an injustice. It is an act of bad faith; I would say hate (…) It is a completely irrational thing (…) It is the product of rancor, hatred and politicking.

In an interview for Azucena Uresti in Formula Group, the lawyer who heads the complaint, Javier Coello Trejo, assured that they have sufficient arguments for the Prosecutor to investigate and for which, he considered, López-Gatell should be in jail.

“I am not a judge, but my employees and those affected are convinced, and so am I, that there is enough evidence that the Prosecutor’s Office has to investigate.”

However, Andrés Manuel’s perspective is different: the president affirmed that, thanks to the intervention of the Undersecretary, it was possible to “lift the health system”, allowing, he said, that the fight against the pandemic “would not have bad results”.

“He is one of the best pandemic specialists in the world. They are honest people, authentic public servants. (…) We started since the pandemic began to attend to everyone, ”he said in his morning press conference.

For this reason, the Tabascan specified that the Federal Government will provide all the support legal, political and moral López-Gatell and even the instruction would be appealed: “It is the defense of a partner; a person responsible for the policy against COVID-19 ″.

On January 20, the control judge, Ganther Alejandro Villar Ceballos, demanded that the Prosecutor’s Office initiate investigations, since -it is assured- the two specific victims, as well as several thousand Mexicans, lost their lives despite the fact that they could have been saved.

The order derived from the demands that relatives of the two deceased persons filed with the body on November 23, 2020 and which were discarded on December 15 without prior investigation, as reported.

Given this, an appeal for review was filed before the Seventh Court of the Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters, with which a hearing was ordered to order the Public Ministry open the investigation against the official.

According to Coello Trejo, the epidemiologist did not comply with its obligations stipulated in the Internal Regulations of the Ministry of Health (SSa), ni complied the warnings that the World Health Organization (WHO) issued before the outbreak of the virus at the end of 2019, prior to its arrival in 2020.

“He did not fulfill his obligation. He carelessly failed to prepare or observe that he had to be ready to receive the pandemic. (…) Many things that are negligence, are omissions that he had the obligation to comply with,” he said.
