Xi Jinping receives the IOC president ten days before Beijing-2022

Chinese President Xi Jinping received the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, on Tuesday, ten days before the start of the Winter Games in Beijing, the Xinhua agency announced.

The Chinese press or official sources did not provide further details about the meeting at this time.

Bach arrived in Beijing on Saturday and served a three-day isolation. The Beijing Games will take place in a strict health bubble and on the occasion of the event the Chinese president will receive several world leaders, something he has not done for almost two years.

China, where the coronavirus was first detected in late 2019, virtually closed its borders in March 2020.

Xi Jinping has not left China since January 2020 and has not received foreign leaders since March of the same year, although he has participated in numerous international meetings via videoconference.

Among the political leaders expected in Beijing for the Olympic Games is Vladimir Putin, president of Russia.

Several western countries (especially the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom) announced a diplomatic boycott of these Games to denounce the violations of Human Rights in China.
