US President Biden expects respect for journalists from his employees. Now he has broken his own principles – and insulted a reporter. The remark was included in the official minutes.
US President Joe Biden has been caught vulgarly insulting a journalist because the microphone was still on. “What a stupid bastard,” Biden said in the White House of Fox News reporter Peter Doocy. That can be heard on recordings.
At the end of a press conference, Doocy asked Biden if high inflation in the US could harm his Democratic Party in the November midterm elections. “No, it’s a great plus, more inflation,” Biden said sarcastically, still at his desk.
He then murmured in a low voice, “What a stupid son of a bitch.” Biden used the expression “stupid son of a bitch”. In the US, this insult is considered a less serious insult than the literal German translation “son of a bitch”.
Doocy reacts relaxed – Biden calls him
Doocy, who works as his station’s White House correspondent, was relaxed about the president’s statement. “Nobody’s fact-checked him yet and said that’s not true,” he said, smiling on Fox News.
Doocy later said that Biden called him. The US President said: “It’s nothing personal, buddy.”
The White House later included the remark in the official minutes of the press conference. With that, she entered the official historiography. “It gives the whole thing that certain something,” commented New York Times correspondent Katie Rogers on Twitter.
respect for journalists
The conservative news broadcaster is known for extremely critical reporting on Biden, and Doocy himself repeatedly stands out with persistent and provocative questions to the president. Biden is known for the fact that he likes to express himself in colloquial language and also repeatedly makes verbal interruptions.
At the beginning of his tenure, however, he drummed into his employees to treat journalists with respect. He wanted to differentiate himself from Trump, who had repeatedly openly attacked journalists.
