DENVER (AP) — Nikola Jokic scored 34 points, including four on free throws in the closing seconds, and the Denver Nuggets held on to beat the Detroit Pistons 117-111 on Sunday.
The Serb added nine rebounds and eight assists to flirt with what would have been his fifth straight triple-double. Will Barton had 14 points and Aaron Gordon added 13 for the Nuggets, who went 4-2 in a six-game homestand.
Isaiah Stewart, Cade Cunningham, Cory Josepy and Trey Lyles each had 18 points for the Pistons, who have lost four of five games.
Cunningham’s 3-pointer pulled Detroit within 75-73 with 3:57 remaining in the third quarter. Davon Reed and Argentina’s Facundo Campazzo hit back-to-back 3-pointers that started a 17-3 streak.
That allowed the Nuggets to take a 92-76 lead early in the fourth quarter.
