After the visit of Jennifer Granholm to Mexico, the United States Secretary of Energy expressed that there is concern in his government due to the recent Energetic reform promoted by the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
The former governor of the state of Michigan affirmed that in each meeting she held with senior Mexican leaders, she made clear the position that there are “real concerns” on the part of the administration headed by the president Joe Biden and the vice president Kamala Harris, mainly because of thePotential Negative Impact of Energy Reforms on US Private Investment”.
“The proposed reform could also hamper joint efforts between the United States and Mexico on clean energy and climate.”, was read in a statement shared through the official portal of the United States Secretary of Energy, for which he stated that “we must maintain and improve open and competitive energy markets that benefit North America”.
“I was assured that Mexico is committed to supporting clean energy and resolving current disputes with energy projects within the rule of law”
Granholm thanked the Mexican government for the open dialogue on the energy future of the two nations and expressed that “the United States highly values” this relationship, since “it sees a tremendous promise that the Renewable Energy Boosts North American Competitiveness”.
