Gas as a weapon? How Russia keeps Europe’s energy markets in suspense

Is Russia using natural gas as a weapon? This accusation is not new. However, now that gas demand in Europe is high and Russian gas flows are still scarce, it is becoming explosive.

According to statements by its trading partners, the state-owned company Gazprom will continue to meet its delivery obligations. Apparently it doesn’t do more than that – although a megawatt hour of gas is still generously remunerated at 75 euros on the spot market.
