The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported, this Thursday, January 20, 2022, 30,506 new cases of covid-19 in Colombia. In the last 24 hours 92,208 tests were processed of which 40,673 are PCR and 50,471 antigens.

The report also indicates that 190 Colombians died from the disease in the last day. In this way, the country reaches a total of 131.627 deaths from the virus since the start of the pandemic.

By conglomerating all the figures, Colombia reached a total of 5,655,026 infections, of which 150,785 are active cases and 5,353,276 correspond to positive cases that have already managed to overcome the disease.

The Colombian Ministry of Health called on parents, guardians and the educational community in the national territory to guarantee the return of minors to face-to-face attendance, because only 15% of students in institutions public schools in the country returned to the classroom.

This invitation from the Health portfolio coincides with the decree of the National Government that urges the return of all schools in the country between January and February of this year, without exception, arguing that educational institutions should already have the capacity to receive students after two years of adjustments in the midst of the covid-19 health crisis.

“There is no more important process in the country today than the return of children to educational institutions. It is necessary to get behind all the consequences that this pandemic has left on the mental health of children and on their cognitive and academic development. We have no turning back to guarantee that 100% of boys and girls return to face-to-face attendance at educational institutions,” said the Ministry’s Director of Promotion and Prevention, Gerson Bermont.

In turn, he pointed out that more than 3.4 million children and adolescents in the country have received the first dose of the covid-19 vaccine, which represents more than 48.7% of the population in the territory. between the ages of three and 11, while 17.2% of this population already has the complete vaccination schedule, a figure that is minimal for the return of attendance.
