After the body of a baby was recently found in garbage cans inside the San Miguel prison in Puebla, the organization reinsert He asked the corresponding authorities not to ignore the case.

“Civil society organizations We regret the statement by which the State Human Rights Commission of the State of Puebla (CEDH), headed by José Félix Cerezo Vélez, urges the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) to inhibit and refrain from knowing the facts about the discovery of the dead baby found, ”can be read in a statement shared on social networks.

In this sense, the association disapproved of the CNDH being respectful of the request by the ECHR, after clarifying that up to now it has not exercised the power to attract the case and that it will not carry out any investigation in this regard.

What’s more, reinsert urged the president of the CDNH, Rosario Piedra Ibarra, to reconsider the decision of the body he directs.

“It is to our knowledge that the State Human Rights Commission of Puebla started the review of the file late, putting at risk the impartiality and transparency of this terrible event”, is observed in the document.

The statement also highlighted that the civil associations trust that the CNDH will carry out an impartial job and that they trust the work of its Third General Inspectorate headed by Hilda Téllez Lio and her team.

All this resulted after the CNDH reported on January 15 that it had initiated a complaint letter to determine if there were omissions by the authorities in the case of this deceased baby.

However, in another bulletin, the ECHR urged the body to stay out of this case:

“…the CDH Puebla carries out in a more respectful way an attentive exhortation to the CNDH so that in the present case it inhibits and abstains to hear facts that lack its jurisdiction as it is a matter of a local nature, which is currently being processed under file number 95/2022″, reads the statement.

Given this, this Wednesday the CNDH responded and assured that it is respectful of the way in which the authorities are carrying out the proceedings.

The CNDH reiterates its call for a comprehensive investigation and exhaustive that allows the clarification of the facts and find the person or persons responsible for the death of the minor.

According to the organization reinsert, the youngest three months would have been murdered in prison when he entered on a family visit and it was an inmate who became aware of the facts when he saw the body in a garbage can and notified the authorities so that it could be found. Presumably, the baby was found with an abdominal incision.

The lack of protocols for entering the prison and the lack of safe spaces for girls or boys to who are directly or indirectly related to prisons can live with their families without being at risk.

“These minors are constantly exposed to violence derived from the carelessness of the authority inside the Penitentiary Centers. This normalization of violence affects and endangers their lives”, the statement read.
