Again without light. Without the overwhelming heat of last week, once again the Argentine electrical system shows severe failures, to the point that more than 100,000 users were without electricity this afternoon.
The massive outage occurs now, after a storm, which included abundant rainfall and strong winds, affected a large area of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), which led to falling trees, power lines and minor damage, as well as flooding in some areas of the Federal Capital and the Greater Buenos Aires.
Now due to the impact of the rain, the ENRE – the entity that must control the quality of service provision – reports that in the Edesur area, 59,390 users were without supply, while in the Edenor area, there were more than 41,000 those who were in the dark.
Unlike the week, when the extreme temperatures of more than 40 degrees of heat demanded the electrical system to the maximum, this Thursday the outage originated, in principle, in the storm with intense winds and heavy rainfall in a very short.
The areas most affected by power outages, in the area of the city of Buenos Aires, were the Buenos Aires neighborhoods of Recoleta, Retiro, Caballito, Liniers, Parque Chacabuco, Villa Devoto, while in the case of the province of Buenos Aires , the epicenter of the problems was La Matanza -where a large number of those affected were concentrated- and also General San Martín, Marcos Paz, Tigre, Merlo, Pilar, Almirante Brown, Berazategui, Cañuelas, Esteban Echeverria, Florencio Varela, Lanus, Lomas of Zamora, Quilmes, San Vicente.
The National Meteorological Service had to issue a short-term alert, to recommend special care in the face of the abrupt deterioration of the weather in the extensive AMBA area. This warning was issued with a scope of the areas surrounding the Rio de la Avocado and the districts of La Plata, Berisso, Ensenada, Brandsen, Castelli, Chascomús, Dolores, General Paz, Lezama, Magdalena, Punta Indio, Tordillo, among others.
In a statement, the SMN reported that “the area will be affected by rains and storms of varying intensity, some locally strong or severe, accompanied by intense gusts, hail fall”, as well as “strong electrical activity and fundamentally abundant waterfall in short periods. Accumulated precipitation values are estimated between 30 and 70mm, being able to be overcome in a localized way”.
