Our Flag Means Death aims at a mix of period story and comedy to portray a humorous pirate adventure starring Taika Waititi in the role of Blackbeard for HBO Max. In recent years, the New Zealand filmmaker and actor has emerged as one of the most brilliant Hollywood artists of his generation; gained notoriety with What We Do In The Shadows, a parody of vampires, and since then he did not stop until he even won an Oscar for a dramatic comedy from Nazi Germany entitled Jojo Rabbit. Coming soon, will launch Thor: Love and Thunder, the second film he directed for Marvel Studios.
To change the routine a bit, Waititi disembarks in a different universe and produces – parallel to his performance as the feared pirate – the television series created by David Jenkins. Depending on the platform, the plot “is loosely based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby), a spoiled aristocrat who abandons his life of privilege to become a pirate.” When he begins his journey at sea, no one could believe it, because he left a great life of privilege to be a buccaneer and face the greatest threats far from his hometown.
The advance of Our Flag Means Death It shows us the protagonist giving a deep speech to inspire his crew to accompany him on this journey, but this is not typical of a pirate and the man will definitely have to shed his refined behavior to be one of them.
