Stadtwerke München is phasing out coal and nuclear energy

At the end of the year, Stadtwerke München (SWM) not only wants to phase out nuclear energy, as has been planned for a long time, but also coal firing. The coal block (Block 2) in the North thermal power station in Unterföhring is to be converted to natural gas as early as the 2022/23 heating season.

A mode of operation of the system is currently being developed that is designed for a gas turbine, this still has to be tested with a view to its practical suitability, explained the technical director of SWM, Helge-Uve Braun at a press conference.
