Colombian pilot Tatiana Calderon, announced this Monday morning that he will play the 2022 season of the IndyCar Series, America’s quintessential single-seater championship. The 28-year-old woman from Bogota will be at the helm of the ROKIT Chevrolet number 11 of the team AJ Foyt Racing in 12 of the 17 calendar races.

After the difficulties suffered during his participation in the Japanese Super Formula, in which he missed most of the races, Calderón will change continents to find greater continuity and protagonism. In July of last year, one of the cars in the squad did tests for the first time, in the mid ohio circuit, and his goal of integrating the template was clear.

“I am excited and very grateful for Jonathan Kendrick, ROKiT and AJ Foyt Racing for the opportunity to race in IndyCar. I started my career in single-seaters in the United States 11 years ago and since then Indycar has been a reference for me,” Tatiana said in a statement released by her team, which, let’s remember, was founded in 1985 by the historic American pilot, Anthony Joseph Foyt Jr.

The Colombian athlete will have her premiere next February 27 at circuito de St.Petersburg, and will be partially present in the various competitions. Let’s remember that won’t race the oval tracks, but the routers Y urban. His teammates at AJ Foyt Racing will be the American Kyle Kirkwood, champion of the Indy Lights —pre-IndyCar category—, and the Canadian Dalton Kellet.

The desire of the runner ‘Cafetera’ is to be able to consolidate herself in this category, in which John Paul Montoya will be running this year in the Indianapolis Grand Prix and, for the seventh time, in the legendary Indianapolis 500 Miles, which arrive this year at their 106th edition. The former Formula 1 driver will wear the colors of the squad Arrow McLaren SP.

I would like to stay here for several years. Do a single year, with everything I have to learn, from the car behavior and of the tires… America has opened this great door for me, has treated all the women who have passed through Europe very well, and obviously I hope it’s several years ahead of me in American motorsports. […] Being in IndyCar is a dream come true” Tatiana pointed out during the press conference.

“One of our main principles in the general marketing of the ROKIT brand throughout the world is our support and promotion of women in motorsports And as part of that principle, we’ve been a long-time supporter of Tatiana,” said CEO Jonathan Kendrick. “We recognized his talent and charisma from the beginning, and we have seen it grow and develop,” he added during the announcement.

The first contact real that Tatiana will have with the car will be the next Wednesday in the pre-season tests that will take place at the sebring circuit (Florida).
