Yalitza Aparicio responded scathingly to youtuber’s criticism for how he speaks English

A few days ago, the youtuber, Superholly, analyzed the English pronunciation of the Mexican actress, Yalitza Aparicio, after she found a newspaper article that described the interpreter’s speech as Roma in a “perfect” way. As a result of this, the actress from Oaxaca made some comments.

From her YouTube channel, Yalitza shared the video titled Reacting to Superholly’s video, my process learning English, and replied to the audiovisual in which the youtuber wanted to analyze her English based on the short film Doughter of witches, which premiered in November of last year and is available on the Hulu platform.

As a result of this, Yalitza reacted: “The effort is made, but it costs a lot. As they say, well, it takes time. It is a process. And that’s it, speak perfect English, I don’t think so. Right now, the truth is no. Also, in this short, the intention is a Mexican girl who had to go to the United States. And when we checked what pronunciation it should have, what tone, the director remarked that it had to be noted that it was not from there”.

“I think that there we all feel scammed. I was excited too, I didn’t know I speak English,” he said in relation to the journalistic content that made the youtuber believe that Yalitza has “perfect English.”

In the original video, Superholly considered that Yalitza’s intervention in the short film was not enough to fully analyze her pronunciation. So he looked for some other interviews where Yalitza spoke English. However, he was unable to find them, despite the fact that certain videos were advertised in this way.

For her part, Yalitza recalled what she experienced during 2018, when Rome premiered and had to give interviews in the United States, despite the language barrier and his own personality, especially since her personality is somewhat reserved.

“Today I watch these videos and say: ‘Wow’. I don’t know how I did it, really. It was the first time he did all that. The first time I exposed myself to people, who tried to have a conversation like this, “said Yalitza, who also thanked the interpreters who worked with her and the actress Marina de Tavira, with whom she worked on the Alfonso Cuarón film. , to help her communicate.

Finally, in her analysis, Superholly concluded that it is common for American actors and actresses not to want to learn another language in order to be interviewed outside their country. But nevertheless, this does not happen with artists and stars from other latitudes. For this reason, he applauded Yalitza’s attitude.

“The truth is that our Superholly is right. It’s never too late to start. It has cost me a lot, it still costs me too much. Those who have known me from the beginning know that I had never spoken English, what’s more, it was difficult for me to express myself or talk to people I did not know.”, said Yalitza.

“Just with English, as you already said, it’s complicated because it takes time, it’s a whole process. Now that I have tried to make an effort to express myself in English, because the truth is that it is hard for me (…) it’s not too late to start”, concluded Yalitza, who admitted that she has made progress in learning the language, but she still does not consider herself an expert, and stressed that it is never too late to learn a new language.
