Unseld, Wizards coach, enters NBA protocols

Wes Unseld, coach of the Washington Wizards, entered the NBA’s health protocols, and his assistant Pat Delany will be in charge of taking his place at the head of the team, starting with this Saturday’s game against Portland.

The Wizards announced Unseld’s absence on Friday.

Unseld is in his first season coaching the Wizards, who are 22-20 and have won three straight. Delany said she talked to Unseld for a long time Friday morning and told him she felt fine.

The assistant trusted Unseld to give him feedback, even though he would not be physically present. Delany has experience coaching the developmental league, the G League.

Delany commented that Bradley Beal is still in coronavirus protocols after missing the last two games.
