Portugal notifies 38,000 positives and vaccinates members of electoral tables

Lisbon, Jan 15 (EFE) .- Portugal, in line with recent days, today reported 38,136 infections and 33 deaths, while this Saturday it began vaccinating citizens called to occupy the election tables with the booster dose legislative, which will be held on January 30. In total, this Saturday, 90,000 people who will participate in the organization of the polling stations, including municipal officials, will be inoculated with a booster dose. The authorities calculate that on the day of the elections there will be around 250,000 citizens with positive voting rights, so the Government is studying the option of letting the inmates go out to vote during the last hours of the day, although it is waiting to know the Prosecutor’s opinion. As reported today by the General Directorate of Health (DGS) of Portugal, there are 1733 hospitalized (34 more than yesterday) by covid, of which 163 (one more) are in intensive care. The country accumulates an incidence of fourteen days per hundred thousand inhabitants of 3813 cases. Portugal, with 10.3 million inhabitants, has accumulated 1,852,703 positive cases and 19,270 deaths since the pandemic broke out. The National Institute of Statistics revealed this Friday that almost 10% of the deaths that occurred in Portugal in 2021 were due to covid-19.
