Armenia reported on Wednesday the death of a third soldier in armed clashes with Azerbaijan on the border, the worst since the beginning of the year, which also left one dead on the Azerbaijani side.
The two sides accuse each other of being behind the “provocations” that triggered the deadly clashes.
Violence between the two sides periodically erupts despite the November 2020 ceasefire that ended a six-week war for control of the Nagorno Karabakh enclave.
Armenia reported Tuesday that the clashes had left two Armenians dead and two wounded. Azerbaijan announced a death on the Azerbaijani side.
On Wednesday, the Armenian Defense Ministry announced that the lifeless body of a third of its military personnel had been found overnight with gunshot wounds.
According to Azerbaijan, the clashes take place in the Kalbajar border region, located near the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh enclave.
The 2020 war between the two countries left more than 6,500 dead and ended with the defeat of Armenia, which was forced to cede several regions around Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan, including Kalbajar.
