The Democratic Post Office Headquarters of the Public Transport Union urged the Postal Service Headquarters to come up with measures to prevent overwork of postal workers ahead of the explanation day.
The Minjoo Post Office Headquarters held a press conference in front of the Gwanghwamun Post Office in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 10th and said, “This will be the most difficult time for postal workers due to the increased volume due to COVID-19. They are forced to make sacrifices while neglecting their work.”
According to the Minjoo Post Office Headquarters, the Postal Service Headquarters has designated the 19th from the 17th of this month to the 4th of the following month as a ‘special communication period for the Lunar New Year holidays’. During this period, the parcel volume is expected to increase by 21% compared to last year’s Lunar New Year period and by 29% compared to last year’s Chuseok holiday. The Postal Service Headquarters is reported to have prepared measures such as timely recruitment of manpower through diversification of PR channels and minimizing delivery delays through on-time communication (delivery) of postal vehicles.
The Democratic Post Office pointed out that such measures are difficult to protect postal workers. It is explained that the delivery burden will not be alleviated because the Postal Service Headquarters plans to fill the workforce with a focus on divisional personnel. An official from the Democratic Post Headquarters said, “The intensity of labor will increase as the emphasis is placed on minimizing delivery delays and on-time communication.”
