Why is it difficult for Peruvians to respect authority? Analyst explains this point from the case of Miraflores

This Sunday, we woke up with news that generated many criticisms on social networks, after a young man reacted negatively to the police and the watchmen that they were intervening on him during curfew.

Far from respecting the government ordinances; Faced with the health emergency that we are experiencing due to the high flow of COVID-19 infections in our country, this young man only managed to disrespect him and threaten the serene and even the national police officers.

This incident registered in the district of Miraflores, makes it clear that there are many people who, due to social status, having various positions, or simply do not want to follow orders, face authority and on many occasions, physically and verbally attack .

For it, Infobae Peru He spoke with the specialist in Citizen Security, César Ortiz Anderson from Aprosec, who commented on this and other high-profile cases in our country, where the role of the authorities has been minimized.

“It must be taken into account that due to the pandemic, the political and social crisis have accelerated and increased the anomia social in the population. Everything is governed by examples and the example of this Government can be said to be lies and a lack of transparency. People in increasing numbers, especially the youth, no longer respect the rules, or the laws. Today, in addition, in the face of the crime that we experience, people increasingly believe less in institutions ”, Ortiz expressed.

“If they don’t respect the police, what can we expect from the watchmen who don’t even have a legal framework to act. In my opinion, the Congress of the Republic should, as soon as possible, debate and approve a law for the members of the serenazgo, with very precise operational powers in its regulations ”, Held.

Something that the specialist also makes clear is that the members that make up the serenazgo brigades should receive continuous training, especially now that crime is more seasoned.

“I think that a serenazgo operative group should be well trained, qualified and supervised for the use of non-lethal weapons; the situation of insecurity today warrants it “, he claimed.

Let us remember that in the month of November 2021, a Venezuelan citizen attacked a policeman with a “bare fist” in the Cercado de Lima district, after the authority asked him to remove his motorcycle because it obstructed traffic in the area.

Far from the foreigner agreeing to the police request, he decided to hit the authorities. After long minutes of the brawl, the cash managed to be rescued by another agent and the Venezuelan was taken to the police station.

Only in this case, it was seen that the prosecution acted quickly and effectively in the face of disrespect and physical aggression against the police officer. This foreign citizen was given 6 months of preventive detention.

But what about the rest? On many occasions, people who tend to attack authorities only receive a minimal sanction.

“The impunity that is seen today by the State only makes that attitude of disrespect for authority multiply. Be careful because violence in general could be imposed and we will live the law of the jungle in the cities ”, Ortiz Anderson expressed to Infobae Peru.

“Faults should already be sanctioned, we know that there are many homes where parents have not known, wanted or been able to provide adequate upbringing for their children and that is where the problem starts from a youth without values”, opined.

As we discussed above, in some cases, people believe that by having certain influences they can also minimize the work of the authorities, such is the case of the journalist Milagros Leiva, who during a curfew police intervention, refused to present her papers and immediately called General Del Aire so that they would not intervene and not comply with the order of the law enforcement officer.

Before concluding, the specialist assured that a lot has to do with education that comes from home, values and above all respect for others.

“In a pandemic, unfortunately, parenting has been very complicated, even adolescents used drugs in their own homes and parents did not intervene, they preferred their tranquility”, he concluded.
