Inter beats Venice 3-0 in Serie A, climbs to the top

MILAN (AP) – Zlatan Ibrahimović equaled a mark set by Cristiano Ronaldo and Theo Hernández scored twice and a decimated AC Milan beat Venice 3-0 to climb to the top of Serie A.

Ibrahimović opened the account after just two minutes. It was the 80th team the veteran gunner has scored against in the five major leagues in Europe.

Ibrahimović and Cristiano – who reached five Burnley on December 30 – are the only footballers to do so since 2000.

Venice presented a good defense, but the duel changed early in the second half, when the home team quickly went from being 1-0 down to 3-0 and with one man less after defender Michael Svoboda received a red card for denying a clear scoring opportunity.

The Rossoneri were two points ahead of Inter Milan, who host Lazio later in a match between Inter coach Simone Inzaghi with the team he managed and for which he played. Lazio is the only team the defending champion lost to in the first half of the season.

Roma played for Juventus later.

Milan were without more than 10 players due to coronavirus, injuries and the African Cup of Nations.

But he got off to a perfect start on Sunday when Rafael Leão penetrated down the left and rolled a cross that Ibrahimović shot at point-blank range.

Milan threatened to double their lead several times, but had to wait until the start of the complementary half to get it through another assist from Leão, who filtered a pass for Hernández to break off the left wing and pass goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Atalanta started 2022 emphatically, crushing a Udinese decimated by coronavirus 6-2.

It was Atalanta’s first game of the new year after Thursday’s home match against Torino was postponed due to the number of cases of the virus on the visiting team.

Udinese had 12 players out of action due to the coronavirus, but the match proceeded and Atalanta was up 3-0 by the break, thanks to goals from

Mario Pašalić, Luis Muriel and Ruslan Malinovskyi. Muriel added her second after the break and Joakim Mæhle scored his first for talanta, three minutes before Matteo Pessina sealed the result at extra time.

Atalanta is still fourth, two points behind Napoli, but with one game less.

Napoli if imputed to Sampdoria 1-0 with a goal from Andrea Petagna.

At Empoli, Giacomo Raspadori and Gianluca Scamacca scored two apiece in a 5-1 victory for visiting Sassuolo.
