Arsenal fall to Nottingham in FA Cup, Tottenham suffer to pass

In the FA Cup there are always surprises and this Sunday’s was capital: the historic Notingham Forest, currently in second place, eliminated Arsenal on a Sunday day in which Tottenham was eliminated for many minutes against the modest Morecambe (D3), before defeating him 3-1.

The only club with more European Cup titles (1979 and 1980) than national championships (1978), Forest has spent years wandering through the lower ranks of English football, trying to regain lost glory, and this season they are once again far from the fight for promotion (9th in the Championship).

But this Sunday, the players gave their long-suffering fans great joy by eliminating Arsenal (4th in the Premier) thanks to a lone goal from Lewis Grabban (83).

It was the only big surprise of the Sunday session, although other teams in the Premier League did not escape the suffering.

With Harry Kane and Brazilian Lucas Moura in the starting bench and without South Korean Son Heung-min injured, Tottenham were surprised by Anthony O’Connor’s opening goal for Morecambe (33).

Very thick, the ‘Spurs’ did not equalize until the 74th minute through Harry Winks from a direct free kick from the side of the area with little angle.

After having jumped onto the pitch a few minutes before the draw, Moura (85) and Kane (88) enforced the logic against the 21st place in League One (D3).

Liverpool, for its part, with a very young team, was also behind on the scoreboard against Shrewsbury, who also played two steps below, thanks to a goal from Daniel Udoh (27).

But the Reds rectified before the break with a goal 100% from the Anfield club’s quarry, the work of Kaide Gordon (17 years old) to a pass from Conor Bradley (18 years old) and from a penalty transformed by Fabinho (44).

In the second half, fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino, off the bench, increased the difference (78) and Fabinho sealed his double (90 + 3) in an easy victory for Liverpool.

In another tie, between two elite teams, West Ham beat Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds 2-0. Argentine Manuel Lanzini put the Londoners ahead in the 34th minute, and Jarrod Bowen finished a counter with Leeds turned on the attack at 90 + 3.

Wolverhampton, who had just won at Old Trafford, were respected against Seffield United, who were relegated to the Championship (D2) last season (3-0), while Norwich, 20th in the Premier League, won for the minimum 1-0 to Charlton (D2).

The 3rd round of the English Cup will close on Monday with Manchester United-Aston Villa.
