The ruling party did not achieve the numbers to approve the 2022 Budget and returned to the negotiating table. In a meeting that took place in the office after the presidency of the Deputies, the head of the chamber, Sergio Massa and the president of the Frente de Todos bloc, Máximo Kirchner, met with Cristian Ritondo from PRO and Mario Negri from UCR , with the idea of negotiate a way out at the end of the session.
In that meeting, the ruling party put on the table move to an intermission until Tuesday and in the middle bring a modified budget. The proposal included that the Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán, appear in the Chamber on Monday.
That offer was repeated, minutes later, before the president of the Civic Coalition bloc, Juan Manuel Lopez, and his peer from the UCR Evolution, Rodrigo de Loredo.
At the end of the meeting, the four heads of the blocks met with all the deputies of the interblock Together for Change and presented the proposal of the ruling party. In a meeting in the Delia Parodi room, next to Pasos Perdidos, the opposition maintained a heated discussion about the way forward.
“The sectors called hawks were not to accept. The argument was that the ruling party tried break the block and, as he could not, he brought this offer. The discussion rose the moment the Civic Coalition returned to its historic position and there the fissure takes place. There were many screams and legislators who were very angry”Explained a source from Together for Change who participated in the meeting.
In the middle of the discussion, a new option appeared: request an intermission room and that the Executive send a letter asking to withdraw the bill that, in practical terms, was the same as going to the intermission room until Tuesday but which was more pleasant. for the tough because the defeat was more in evidence.
But nevertheless, the position of the sectors that sought a consensual solution prevailed and the possibility of carrying out a budget option with a “temporary” argument. “We want to be a government in 2023 and we are going to need the budget”they argued.
With the return of the legislators to the premises, the speeches began where the deputy Luis Di Giacomo, of the interblock of the United Provinces, proposed the fourth intermission, which generated the first spark of the opposition that asked that the ruling party be the one “Take charge”.
As until that moment the agreement was in place, the president of the Chamber, Sergio Massa made a sign to the president of the Budget Committee, Carlos Heller, who minutes later asked for the intermission room.
When it was the turn of each bloc president to argue whether or not he accompanied the motion, the speeches were raising the tone with crossed accusations, personal accusations and a propensity of the opposition to emphasize that the ruling party had tried “Break the deadlock, make lawmakers go” and that this was a defeat for the Frente de Todos.
When the time came for the ruling party, he was the president of the Frente de Todos bloc, Maximum Kirchner, who asked for the floor to question the attitude of some of the leaders of Together for Change who held important positions during the administration of Mauricio Macri.
“He insulted our figures, our representatives”, said an outraged legislator from the opposition bloc. “It was all agreed, it was the intention of Máximo Kirchner to go out and break up”, added.
“We know what it is about and we have raised it all these days: it was not the same for a government to have a negotiation with the IMF with or without a budget, they practically told us ‘leave in jail, we don’t care.’ Here what cannot work is extortion, because there is a question of responsibility, we have also been a government and made mistakes and successes and we know what it means.. Now, these boys are grabbing the country to play bocce but they are doing it with the people, not with the bocce ball in a field, “said the radical Mario Negri.
