After the fatal shots at a school in the US state of Michigan, the police are looking for the parents of the 15-year-old alleged shooter. Apparently they gave their son the semi-automatic weapon as a Christmas present.

After the fatal shooting in a school in the US state of Michigan, the police are looking for the parents of the alleged 15-year-old perpetrator. Anyone who has information about the whereabouts of James and Jennifer C. should immediately dial 911, according to the search notice published by the sheriff in the Oakland district on Friday. You were wanted for manslaughter.

Prosecutor Karen McDonald said on CNN that evening, “I hope you are doing the right thing and facing up.” Should the parents evade the police, it is likely that they will have to answer for further allegations.

Charges against parents of perpetrators are very rare

McDonald said at a press conference on Friday that the alleged 15-year-old perpetrator’s parents had been charged. James and Jennifer C. are each accused of manslaughter on four counts. The parents bought the murder weapon, allowed their underage son access to the pistol and ignored warnings, said McDonald.

Charges against the parents of a perpetrator of such violence in schools are very rare, but in this case the facts are “outrageous,” she said. “What I’m trying to do is promote a policy of deterrence.”

15-year-old Sagittarius faces life imprisonment

The parents’ whereabouts are currently unknown and they are therefore considered volatile, said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. The Federal Police FBI was also involved in the search. “We will have her in custody soon,” he said. “You cannot shirk your responsibility in this tragedy.”

The 15-year-old opened fire on Tuesday at his school in the small town of Oxford, north of Detroit. He killed four classmates between the ages of 14 and 17 and injured seven other people. After the fact, he was arrested without resistance and was subsequently charged, among other things, with quadruple murder and terrorism. According to adult criminal law, the teenager should be tried. He faces life imprisonment.

“The thoughts don’t stop. Help me”

The mother of the perpetrator is said to have described the weapon, a semi-automatic pistol, on online platforms as a “Christmas present” for her son, Prosecutor McDonald said. According to the police, the 15-year-old had recorded a video on his cell phone the evening before the crime, which announced the attack for the next day. The next morning the school administration asked him to talk to his parents because drawings depicting violent fantasies had been discovered on his desk.

“The thoughts don’t stop. Help me,” read a picture of a pistol next to it. In addition, Crumbley had drawn a cartridge and a corpse, along with the message: “My life is useless”. However, the parents refused to bring their son home. The 15-year-old then returned to class. Later he took out the pistol he had hidden in his backpack in the school toilet and opened fire.

Message to gun owners

“The idea of parents reading these words and knowing at the same time that their son had access to a lethal weapon that they gave him is outrageous and I think it’s criminal,” said prosecutor McDonald. She also accused the parents of not checking that the teenager had the gun with him.

According to the prosecutor, the charges against James and Jennifer Crumbley are intended to “hold those who contributed to this tragedy accountable and to send a message to gun owners that they have a responsibility.”
