After a short decrease, the seven-day incidence rose again slightly. There were also 64,510 new infections. According to the Robert Koch Institute, the actual numbers of infections are higher than currently recorded.
After the figures stagnated for a short time, the seven-day incidence rose slightly again. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the number of new infections with the coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants and week at 442.7. For comparison: the day before the current value was 442.1, a week ago it was 444.3 (previous month: 183.7). The health authorities reported 64,510 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. A week ago there were 67,125 infections.
However, when evaluating the infection rate, it must be taken into account that experts are currently assuming a significant under-reporting – the numbers are therefore likely to be higher than officially stated. In some regions, health authorities and clinics can no longer keep up with reporting cases.
In the following days there are currently a lot of late registrations. The incidence value including late registrations for yesterday’s Friday is 466.4 today (instead of 442.1 on the day itself) and for the Saturday a week ago including late registrations today it is 482.9 – instead of 444.2 on the day itself. Also today Accordingly, the value is likely to be revised upwards significantly in the coming days.
The RKI is also finding it difficult to assess the situation. The slowed rise in the seven-day incidence could “on the one hand be a first indication of a slightly weakening dynamic in the transmission process due to the significantly intensified measures to reduce contact,” said the RKI weekly report on Thursday. However, the development could be “regionally due to the increasingly overloaded capacities in the public health service and the exhausted laboratory capacities”.
378 new deaths
According to the new information, 378 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 303 deaths. The RKI has counted 6,116,070 detected infections with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. Here, too, the actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, since many infections are not recognized. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 102,946.
The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI on Friday as 5.52 (Thursday: 5.47). The value plays an important role in assessing the occurrence of the infection. Because if limit values 3, 6 and 9 are exceeded in the federal states, stricter measures to combat the pandemic can be imposed there.
Countries tighten rules in retail
In addition, on the second weekend in Advent, 2G rules will apply to retail for the first time in many federal states. This means that only those who have been vaccinated or have recovered have access to shops. Exceptions are shops for daily needs – such as supermarkets, other grocery stores and drug stores. The stricter rules were decided jointly by the federal and state governments on Thursday, but the states have to implement the resolutions in their own ordinances.
From Saturday, 2G will apply to retail in North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg as well as in Rhineland-Palatinate, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. On Sunday or Monday, other states will be added, including, in addition to Hesse, for example Saxony-Anhalt as the last federal state in the east – elsewhere in the east such a rule already applied before the federal-state resolutions. Corresponding regulations are to come into force in the middle of next week in Bavaria and Lower Saxony.
