The German Prosecutor’s Office reported this Friday of the arrest a week ago in the city of Dresden, in the east of the country, of an alleged member of the Libyan Revolutionary Operations Room (LROR) militia.
The 29-year-old suspect would have held leadership positions since he joined the group in 2016, such as raising funds to finance LROR operations, including “pressure” on bank staff and workers.
These actions would have been maintained over time even during his arrival in Germany in February 2019. The alleged militiaman would have provided information to the LROR about the Libyan citizens living in the German country, to carry out subsequent kidnapping and extortion actions to obtain sums of money.
Founded by the Islamist politician, Nouri Abusahmain, the LROR has been declared a terrorist organization by the Libyan Parliament. The group participated actively during the second civil war of the North African country (2014-2020), especially against the troops of the Libyan National Army, commanded by General Khalifa Haftar.
