Monterrey (Mexico), Dec 3 (EFE) .- Miguel Herrera, coach of the Tigres, highlighted this Friday the ability of his squad to leave behind the defensive style promoted by his predecessor, Ricardo ‘Tuca’ Ferretti, and in a few months adapt to your offensive proposal.
“It was for them to change their way of thinking, of work, the demands of training. It is not that I put something on the players, they already had the quality. Another coach asked them for something else and today they have adapted to it. that we ask, “he explained this Friday at a press conference.
The Brazilian Ferretti led the Tigres for more than 10 years and imposed an orderly system in defense and unspectacular in attack, a formula that gave him five League titles and a Concacaf Champions League trophy.
At the exit of ‘Tuca’, the feline board opted for Herrera, a strategist who promised in his presentation in May to make a team whose main task was to go to the front with several players and give a show to the fans.
Herrera has managed in his first tournament with the Tigres to finish fourth in the Apertura tournament and advance to the semifinals. This Saturday he will play the second leg with León, whom he beat 2-1 in the first leg.
“We have no other idea than to attack. For the second leg we will try to increase the score. We know that León is a team that plays well, but we will go looking for the result,” he added.
The 56-year-old coach was questioned at the time of Uruguayan Nicolás López, top scorer in the Apertura tournament, who has not yet scored in the final phase.
“Nico is the tournament’s top scorer, sometimes we forget that, and in the first leg with León he had them, he fired from medium distance. The scorer is like that, with streaks with many goals, but he also has other teammates”, he pointed.
For Saturday’s game against León, Herrera revealed that of his starting team the only one who is in doubt is Argentine midfielder Guido Pizarro.
“We analyze what Guido is, we need players who are at 100 percent. Guido is a fundamental piece, but he has told me that if he is not at 100 he will tell me. We need a team willing to run the 90 minutes,” he said.
