San Salvador, Dec 3 (EFE) .- El Salvador experiences “one of the lowest moments” in the number of daily infections of covid-19 and deaths from the virus, said the head of the Ministry of Health this Friday ( Minsal), Francisco Alabí.
“At the moment El Salvador is experiencing one of the lowest moments in the number of confirmed cases per day, this is impressive with a figure of about 114 confirmed cases per day,” said the official.
According to the official site with the data of the covid-19, the downward trend began on November 11 when 194 cases were registered and then the daily figure has continued to decrease until reaching 112 infections on November 27 – last update of the figures.
The Central American country had not registered figures of less than 200 daily infections since last June 29, the month in which a rise in cases began that took them to 341 on September 18, the highest figure in 2021.
El Salvador has experienced three waves of infections since March 2020. The first wave of infections, an official source recently said, lasted three months and took place between May and August 2020.
The second wave lasted four months, between January and April 2021 and the third wave was registered between June and the first days of November.
In addition, Alabí indicated that there are also “tangible results in the reduction of fatalities”, since it went from registering between 15 to 18 deaths per day “to presenting only one deceased.”
“We are going to continue doing what is humanly possible day by day, there are many personnel that make it possible to safeguard the life of the population,” said the Minister of Health.
Alabí’s statements were released to the press after the arrival in the Central American country this Friday of a new batch of vaccines from the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer.
It is a shipment of 205,920 doses of anticovid vaccines and generally represents batch number 47 that the Health authorities receive.
With this new shipment of vaccines, El Salvador exceeds the 14 million doses it has.
“This day we have the joy of being able to reach 14 million doses in the territory that have come through different modes of acquisition,” he said.
El Salvador accumulates 119,803 official coronavirus infections, of which 13,040 cases are active, 3,781 people have died and 102,982 have recovered, according to the government website.
