LONDON (AP) – Authorities arrested a man Wednesday for violating the security of the British Parliament.
The man was seen in photos in a fenced yard of Parliament, surrounded by officers pointing their guns at him. He was later taken away by a police van.
Metropolitan police said they detained the man on suspicion of trespassing at a protected site. He added that it was not considered a case of terrorism.
Authorities of the House of Commons said that “we are aware of an incident in the parliamentary building which is being handled by the police and security personnel.”
The houses of Parliament are patrolled by armed police, and the level of security was raised after a guard officer was stabbed to death by a pro-Islamic State attacker in March 2017. The attacker was shot dead.
