Authorities investigate shooting at Michigan school

OXFORD TOWNSHIP, Michigan, U.S. (AP) – Authorities were investigating a shooting Wednesday at a Michigan school the previous day, where a 15-year-old student killed four students and injured multiple people.

The incident occurred in the high school in the Oxford district, a community of about 22,000 people about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Detroit.

The attacker opened fire at his school, killing three students, including a 16-year-old who died on a patrol on the way to the hospital.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the shooting, said Michael Bouchard, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers arrived at the school around lunchtime when more than a hundred calls with reports of a shooting overwhelmed the 911 operators. Minutes after his arrival, the student was arrested in a hallway. As officers approached, he raised his hands in the air, Bouchard reported.

Associated Press reporters Corey Williams in West Bloomfield, Michigan, David Aguilar in Oxford Township, Kathleen Foody in Chicago, and Josh Boak in Rosemount, Minnesota, contributed to this report.
