Bogotá, Nov 19 (EFE) .- Colombian President Iván Duque will make a lightning visit to Ecuador on Sunday to meet with his counterpart Guillermo Lasso, official sources reported this Friday.
The visit, which is official, responds to an invitation from Lasso to Duque, with whom he maintains a close personal relationship and ideological affinity.
The Colombian president will arrive in Quito on Sunday morning and will stay for about eight hours in the Ecuadorian capital to return to Bogotá the same day in the afternoon.
Duque will be received by Lasso at the Carondelet Palace and, after the formal acts, the two presidents will hold a private meeting to which other members of both governments will later join, sources from the Casa de Nariño, headquarters of the Colombian Government, told Efe. .
Later, Lasso will offer a lunch to the Colombian president, they will exchange decorations and close the day with a joint statement to the press.
Lasso, who was elected on April 11, chose Colombia as the destination for his first trip abroad as president-elect, a visit that took place just nine days later, when he was received by Duque at the Casa de Nariño.
At that meeting, he defended the “economic opening of Ecuador to the world” and advocated for the “immediate full-fledged entry” of his country to the Pacific Alliance, a bloc made up of Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Peru.
The two presidents met again on August 14 at the common border, where they inaugurated a road corridor over the Mataje River that will allow better communication between the two countries.
For years the two governments have also held periodic meetings of the Binational Cabinet in which they discuss matters of bilateral interest in different fields.
