After PASO the president of the PRO, Patricia bullrichHe said that the main leaders of Together for Change had all put their hands together one on another and agreed not to attack each other until after the legislative elections. An hour after having obtained the triumph, the hands quickly came out of the heap and the inner ones emerged.
Although many look to 2023, in Together for Change, a fight was quickly unleashed that will have to be resolved in the next two weeks.. The internal between the different sectors of the PRO has been launched and the Chamber of Deputies seems to be the right space for, at least, the first of the battles.
During the first week of December, what is known as the preparatory session will take place. In that session the new legislators who take office on December 10 will be sworn in and, in addition to the curiosity of knowing who each swears by, this time there will be a lot of tension waiting for each of the blocks to announce their authorities and to begin to define the presidencies of the most important commissions.
It is not a secret confrontation among the so-called “hard” sectors of the PRO and those more permeable to dialogue with the ruling party. In the assembly of the lists, at least in the province of Buenos Aires, the sector linked to Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and María Eugenia Vidal He was the one who prevailed and was left with victory in a district where “Kirchnerism” was the opponent to win. So they feel that much of the triumph is theirs.
On the side of the hard they appear Patricia Bullrich and Mauricio Macri, They feel that they were more responsible for the votes of Together for Change in the interior, despite the fact that in recent weeks Rodríguez Larreta also visited the provinces where senators were elected. The confrontation will be resolved in Congress.
In the PRO they are sure that this time they will be in charge of the Interblock that they make up with the rest of the forces of Together for Change. First because they have more legislators than the rest. Second, because Alfredo Cornejo, president of the UCR, moves to the Senate and aspires to preside over the interblock there. It should be noted that if one force presides in the upper house, the other will preside in the lower house. Third, because the current president of the interblock in Deputies, the radical Mario Negri, has just lost the internship in Córdoba and knows that it is the turn of one of his colleagues from PRO.
The man everyone points to to occupy that place is Cristian Ritondo. With experience in the Chamber, this man who politically responds to María Eugenia Vidal and aspires to be governor of the province of Buenos Aires has a good relationship with the president of the Chamber, Sergio Massa, and with the president of the ruling bloc, Maximum Kirchner.
Ritondo was in a position to take over the job two years ago but handed over to Negri. Today he is determined to fight for him. And, although the Cordovan radical would like to continue in that place, it is most likely that the competition will have it with members of the PRO.
On the side of Bullrich, legislators such as Waldo Wolf and Fernando Iglesias, like the swords that will go out to fight. And, although many understand that they have little chance of reaching that place, the pressure will serve to contest the presidency of the commissions and the vice-presidency of the Chamber of Deputies.
In any case, everyone is aware that the presidency of the interblock is resolved between block chiefs and with the National Board of Together for Change. That is to say, it will finally be resolved also by the hand of what the future block bosses PRO, UCR, CC say, and the new blocks that are already foreseen, such as that of Emilio Monzó and Rogelio Frigerio that promises to drag other legislators, that of Ricardo López Murphy and other small spaces that will have umbrellas in JxC.
Two years ago, when a similar situation was experienced, the negotiation ended with the deputy Omar de Marchi of the PRO of Mendoza as vice president of the Chamber of Deputies and Alfredo Cornejo, faced in the intern with Mario Negri, remained with the third vice-presidency.
“Today the first and third vice presidents of the Chamber are held by the PRO and the UCR. These are two positions that are going to be put into play in the negotiations but to define the internal authorities ”, explains a connoisseur of the negotiations. “There are many sectors with aspirations”, added.
But while in the PRO the fights are more public, in the Radicalism silently fought the same battles. The centennial party is also experiencing a process of power dispute that goes through several tracks and that, at least this year, It will culminate in the election of party authorities in December.
But in Congress they are all launched. At least in the lower house. The deputy and president of the Buenos Aires UCR, Emiliano Yacobitti, he no longer hides his intentions to run for the presidency of the UCR bloc and announced that he will seek to contest the presidency of the historic Mario Negri.
Yacobitti belongs to the same sector as Martin Lousteau, Radical Evolution, which was another of the winners of the election. Although he did not put his bank at stake, he bet across the country for different candidates and, in the vast majority of cases, he prevailed. Mainly, he did it in Córdoba where the radical Rodrigo de Loredo He beat his co-religionist, Mario Negri.
Negri has been speaking one on one for some time with each of the 46 legislators who make up the space to ensure his re-election. But Yacobitti says he has 16 of those 46 votes.
“If I have the trust of my peers, I want to continue being president of the radicalism bloc. It is not my priority to be president of the interblock, which is a coordinator among all the other presidents of blocks, “said Negri.
For specialists in radicalism who follow the internal constants and different lines of the centennial party, the fight that the Buenos Aires radical seeks to fight is, in principle, “complex.” “Of the 46 deputies that the UCR Block will have, Yacobitti has 16 and there is one who is not so sure that it is Julio Cobos. The rest seem to be closer to Negri who knows a lot about the Deputies cloth. In 2019 he beat Cornejo who came from being governor and president of the party ”, they remember
In the environment of the Cordovan deputy they took as a “cheap blow” that Yacobitti made reference to the block bosses having support at the polls. “He entered third on a sheet list in 2019, it is not known how many votes of his own he has in a general election,” they retorted.
In Together for Change they seek to quickly resolve these disputes and prevent blood from reaching the river because time is short and they want to have a joint strategy to face Sergio Massa not for his chair in the Chamber but for the chairmanship of the commissions.
Today JxC does not chair any important commission and understands that now is the time to fight them. As there are only two legislators who are different from the ruling party, they understand that because of the D’hondt system they should have the same number of commissions, the problem is quality.
The discussion this time is going to be with whom will JxC form an alliance in each commission so that at the time the authorities vote, the opposition can snatch any of the ruling party. One of the key commissions they are looking for in JxC is constitutional matters, so it will need agreements with the new opposition that is going to enter that is not from the PRO, the UCR or the CC to obtain the necessary votes. And, also, know which one you are going to give in return.
