Soccer Bundesliga: 1. FC Union Berlin – Hertha BSC 2-0

Status: 20.11.2021 8:37 p.m.

Uniom Berlin remains the clear number one in the capital and climbs to a Europa League rank after a safe win against Hertha BSC.

Taiwo Awoniyi caused ecstasy on Saturday evening (November 20, 2021) in the Alte Försterei, which was fully occupied thanks to the 2-G rule, with his leading gate in the 8th minute, at least for the Köpenicker part of the audience. Christopher Trimmel increased after half an hour for the Unioners, who were clearly superior, especially in the first round, and thus ensured the preliminary decision before the break.

Union climbs to fifth place

All changes made by Hertha coach Pal Dardai after the break, including Kevin-Prince Boateng Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and shortly before the final whistle, Davie Selke, fizzled out. Hertha was never able to seriously distress the well-organized Union defensive as usual.

In the end there was a safe, well-deserved victory for the “Iron”, who climbed to fifth place in the table. With 13 points, Hertha remains closer to the relegation zone than the actually targeted international places.

Hertha now against Augsburg, Union in Frankfurt

The next two away games for Union Berlin are on the program: Next Thursday Union will play in the Europa Conference League at Maccabi Haifa, before the Bundesliga continues on Sunday at Eintracht Frankfurt. Hertha BSC will host FC Augsburg in the Olympic Stadium next Saturday.
