Santo Domingo, Nov 19 (EFE) .- The Lions of El Escogido announced this Friday the hiring of outfielder Aaron Hicks, who belongs to the New York Yankees, for this Dominican autumn winter baseball league.
The 32-year-old, with 9 years of experience in the Major Leagues, will arrive in the Dominican Republic next Sunday, to join the scarlet team, in which he will play with Albert Pujols.
The hiring of Hicks came days after the signing of outfielder Franmil Reyes was frustrated, who could not join the Lions due to an arbitration process he has open with the Cleveland Indians.
Hicks has operated in the majors uninterruptedly since 2013, accumulating 92 home runs, .330 on-base percentage and .729 OPS, in addition to 102 doubles and 365 runs scored in 740 games.
His best year was 2018, in which he charted 27 homers, drove in 79 and had a .248 / .366 / .467 offensive line in 132 games.
During 2021, surgery on his left wrist limited the hitter with both hands to just 32 games, in which he had 14 RBIs, 13 runs scored and 4 home runs.
With a record of 8-9, the Lions are tied with the Toros del Este and the Águilas Cibaeñas in the Dominican league standings, which dominate the Eastern Stars 10-7.
