The Duchess of Sussex accused the royal family of “constantly attacking” Prince Harry over public statements by his father Thomas Markle, saying that they did not understand why she did not go home to Mexico to “make him stop”.

In August 2018, Meghan’s father offered various media interviews about her daughter after she gave up attending her wedding, which caused sadness in the couple and concern in the royal house.

According to recently released text messages, written to Jason Knauf, her then press secretary, to draw up a letter for her estranged father, the Duchess said that she wanted to protect her husband from the “pain” that the situation had caused him. “Even after a week with his father and endlessly explaining the situation to him, his family seems to forget the context and go back to saying ‘Can’t you go see him and make this stop?”wrote on August 22, 2018.

“They fundamentally don’t understand it. So if I write to you, H [Harry] You can tell your family ‘she wrote him a letter and he keeps doing it’. By taking this form of action, I protect my husband from this constant reprimand, and although it is unlikely, I may give my father a moment of pause. “, continued in the same message.

Meghan and Harry apparently stayed with the Prince of Wales and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, at Mey Castle, Scotland, in the week of July 28, 2018. There, it is believed that discussed what to do with Thomas Markle and his public appearances.

In her witness statement in court, the Duchess of Sussex explained that he did not feel capable of traveling to Mexico to see his father in person because he believed that it would be impossible to reach him in private without risking to bring “Even more embarrassment” to his in-laws.

Meghan claimed that “Senior family members and their advisers expressed concern about public attacks” on the royal family by Thomas Markle. “I was especially sensitive to this, since I had very recently joined the family and was eager to please them“Said the American.

In October, at the time of texting, she was writing a letter to his father, in which he mentioned his anguish over his behavior around the wedding.

The text was mentioned by one of her friends, in anonymous statements to the magazine People, and excerpts were later published by The Mail on Sunday.

The Duchess successfully sued the newspaper’s editor for violation of privacy, copyright and data protection, but Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) wants that summary judgment be annulled in favor of a trial.

At the beginning of the year, the Superior Court determined that the disclosure of that letter was illegitimate, which avoided having to go to trial, but now ANL is appealing that ruling before the Court of Appeal, arguing that the case should go to trial. The widely circulated tabloid is now contesting this decision, in an appeal considered until Thursday in London.

Hi Jason – I hope the recognition goes well. I am currently in Toronto and have written a letter to be sent to my father. I share it with you confidentially: the letter itself and its content.

My plan is to write it by hand and send it by FedEx to [redactado], who will mail it to my father. My idea is that unlike a text or email, you can’t forward or cut and paste to share only a small part … The catalyst for me to do this is to see how much pain it is causing H. Even After a week with his father and endlessly explaining the situation to him, his family seems to forget the context – and say again, “Can’t you go see him and make this stop?” They fundamentally don’t understand it, so at least writing to H [Harry] You can tell your family “she wrote him a letter and he continues to do so.” By taking this form of action I protect my husband from this constant reprimand, and although it is unlikely I may give my father a moment’s pause.

Obviously, everything I have written I have done with the understanding that it could leak, so I have been meticulous in my choice of words, but please let me know if there is anything that you find inconvenient. I am eager to know your opinions ……

Jason Knauf – August 22, 2018

Good morning from Tonga. Sorry to wake up now with these messages: the recognition is going well, but the jet lag has been deep.

My initial opinion is that this is a very good idea. The draft of the letter is very strong – enough emotion to be authentic, but all in resigned sadness rather than anger. In addition, it is fact-focused in a way that does not look like a court record, which is not easy to do.

Mind if I talk to Sam this morning? Just arrived.

Also, there are some adjustments to the order of events as you have stated that could be a little stronger – I think it is slightly worse than you remember. Should we arrange a time for a call and can I discuss it with you? It wouldn’t take me long.

I hope you’re okay so [ilegible]

I think it’s very strong. The only thing that I think is essential to address in some way is the “heart attack.” That is your best opening for criticism and sympathy. The truth is, you desperately tried to find out about the medical treatment he claimed to be receiving and he stopped communicating with you. You begged him to accept help getting him to the hospital, etc., and instead of talking to you to organize it, he stopped answering the phone and only spoke to TMZ.

It is a very valid point. Let’s compose a page and try to fit it in – I would also prefer this not to be shared in any way with Sam Cohen as I said initially.

Thanks for understanding! I’ll try to compose again and resend updates to you. We still need a return address and name. It can be an alias. Thanks.

Jason Knauf-August 22, 2018

It’s such a strong and clear letter – with just the right amount of emotion. I hope you are well after writing it.

Let me think about the return address – I reply asap

Honestly Jason I feel fantastic

Cathartic and real and honest and factual. And if you filter it then that is in your conscience [sic] But at least the world will know the truth Words I could never express publicly

Too:

– I numbered each page so they couldn’t tell I had finished earlier

– I annotated the top of each page (1/5, 2/5 …. etc so that there would be a notation of the length)

– I made very few paragraph breaks so that photos could not be taken to indicate the end of a page where there was none

– I finished each page with a hanging phrase so that it would always lead you to the need to continue reading … eg: “I wish you had only ….” with the next phrase from the next page VS wrapping it as a false ending

Trust me. Every detail that can be manipulated has been worked on.

Jason Knauf- August 22, 2018

Nothing has been left to chance! That’s the only way to get through this
