The executive president of the Urban Transportation Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU), María Jara Risco, was emphatic in assuring this Wednesday that he will not resign from his position. This statement comes days after the Minister of Transport and Communications, Juan Silva, announced a reorganization of said body and supposedly promised his exit to the transporters union.

“The appointment of the Board of Directors, including the Executive Presidency, is an appointment for 5 years and that can only be removed for reasons, as established, including our Ombudsman’s Office, is not only an opinion of the party. The institutionality clearly establishes that this work, which is so delicate and which is so difficult to fight against these mafias and even put our personal life at risk, I have assumed it with absolute responsibility for 5 years. That is my commitment and that of all the members of the Board of Directors, we are not going to give up at all ”, Held.

Likewise, he announced a series of improvements that his institution will implement in the coming weeks for the benefit of users and operators of transport services. These measures include the ordering of routes on Grau avenue and the progressive implementation of compulsory scrapping in regular transport and complementary corridors, as well as operational improvements in accessibility and green areas of the Metropolitan.

In a press conference called to present a management balance, Jara Risco also cited, among the improvements for the following days, the authorization to the ATU to grant authorizations for 5 years to transport operators with conditions of improvement for the benefit of users.

“And I highlight this; five years and with conditions of improvement for the benefit of users, never a blank check ”, emphasized the executive president.

“This proposal has been presented to the Congress of the Republic and has been agreed with the entirety of the transport unions in multiple meetings,” he said.

METROPOLITAN AND GRAU AVENUE

In the context of the covid-19 pandemic, the official announced that the standard of payment with QR code – a way that avoids contact between driver and passenger and the exchange of coins or bills – “also begins in 45 days and is implemented in 90 days”.
