Ryan adds 3 TDs as Falcons beat Saints 27-25

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Matt Ryan connected with Cordarrelle Patterson for a 64-yard pass with a minute left, opening the door for Younghoe Koo’s 29-yard field goal with no time on the clock, and the Atlanta Falcons they defeated the erratic New Orleans Saints 27-25 on Sunday.

Ryan passed for 343 yards, found Olamide Zaccheaus twice for touchdowns, and the veteran quarterback ran for a touchdown on a reversible. Ryan’s second touchdown pass put the Falcons ahead 24-6 with 10:39 left. But the Saints rallied briefly to take the lead as Trevoer Siemian sent 8 yards to Kenny Stills with 1:01 left.

New Orleans missed the two-point conversion attempt for the second time in the game, opening the door for the Falcons to win the game with a field goal.

It took Ryan just one play to burn down the Saints defense, his fourth complete pass of at least 30 yards in the game, and second with Patterson. The versatile running back left rookie Paulson Adebo behind on the right wing and finished with six receptions for 126 yards.

Although the Falcons did not have their best receiver, Calvin Ridley, who cares for his mental health, Ryan completed 23 of 30 shipments without turning the ball. Russell Gage caught seven passes for 64 yards, rookie tight end Kyle Pitts had three catches for 62 yards, and Zaccheaus finished with three for 58.

Saints head coach Sean Payton opted for Siemian following the injury to Jameis Winston that will leave him out for the rest of the season, and intermittently turned to Taysom Hill behind center. Siemian passed for 249 yards and two touchdowns with no interception, while Hill completed both of his attempts for 33 yards. Both passers were weighed down by a combination of penalties, loose passes and poor line protection.
