The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa al Kazimi was unharmed in an “assassination attempt” on Saturday night with an explosive drone against his residence in Baghdad’s Green Zone, sources from his office said.
“An explosive drone attempted to attack the residence” of Kazimi that “was not injured” in this “assassination attempt,” his office said in a statement. Shortly before, two security sources indicated that a “rocket” had hit his residence at a time of protests by pro-Iranian groups against the results of the legislative elections of October 10.
The Al-Arabiya chain assures that the prime minister has been injured and is in hospital, although the authorities have confirmed that Al Kazemi has not suffered damages and is in good health.
“I’m fine, thank God, and I call for calm and restraint on the part of all for the good of Iraq,” Kazimi wrote on Twitter after the attack.
“The security forces are taking the necessary measures in connection with this failed (assassination) attempt,” said the country’s Security Media Cell, in a statement collected by the Iraqi news agency NINA.
